Modern, Light-Filled Homes in Großweil, Germany

In Großweil, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, six distinctive homes were built with striking wood facades and a clean, contemporary design. Beyond their strong visual appeal, the project was also planned with everyday comfort in mind. One of the main goals was to bring as much natural light as possible to every level of the buildings. To achieve that, the apartments and office spaces directly beneath the roof were equipped with FAKRO roof windows.

Durability and Functionality

The installed roof windows are combinations of PTP U3 units in the 55 cm x 118 cm size, arranged on both sides of the ridge in four- or five-window sets. This configuration creates a cohesive, almost symmetrical composition that integrates seamlessly with the roof surface.

The PTP U3 window features a pivot design with a hinge positioned halfway up the frame. The sash can also rotate 180° and be locked with a bolt, allowing for convenient and safe cleaning of the outer pane. Made from multi-chamber PVC profiles, it stands out for its durability and resistance to corrosion. This type of window performs well in rooms with increased humidity and in hard-to-reach areas - such as in this project, where the windows were installed high near the ridge.

Bringing Light to the Upper Floor

The placement of the FAKRO roof windows helped the designers achieve their intended result: interiors filled with abundant natural daylight. Light from above enhances the modern character of the entire development and makes the upper-floor spaces feel larger, brighter, and more open. The result is a thoughtfully designed living environment that combines functionality with visual appeal, improving daily comfort while adding lightness and elegance to the architecture.
